Barkley and Gillam Graduates.
Barkley township schools had their graduating exercises last Saturday, at Yalma Park. The exercises began in the forenoon and were concluded in the afternoon, by the pleasant interruption of a basket dinner. A large attendance was present, and the exercises were afore than of usual interest. The graduates and their subjects, were as follows: Bertha Reed, “Early Life in New England.” Ira Galbreth, “Slavery in America.” Stella M. Hanson, “The Building of a Wondeiful Castle.” Ray Collins, “Tb<? Revolutionary War.” May Wright, “Old Father Time’s Treasure House.” Gertie Castle, ’'America’s First Great Battle.” John Parkison, “The Big Front Door.” Kenton Parkison, “The Secret of Acheivement.” The graduates all acquitted themselves in a manner greatly to their credit. The exercises were varied by musical selections, declamations etc. Ex-County Superintendent, David B. Nowels gave an interesting and instructive address. Superintendent Hamilton was present and gave the diplomas.
GILLAM TOWNSHIP. The Gillam Township graduating exercises were held, Saturday evening at Independence Chapel, were also largely attended and of exceptional excellence and interest. The graduates were five in number, their names and subjects of essays, being as follows, Ada Allred, “Right Use of Time.” Earl Faris, “Power of Money.' Edward Smith, “Business Traits.” George Wilcox, “Importance of Pure Boyhood.” Josie Toyne, “Public School System of Indiana.” The exercises were amplified by music, declamations, and by an address by Hon. D. M. Gee ting, of Indianapolis, ex-State Superintendent. County Superintendent Hamilton presented the diplomas.
