A Wheatfield Case Before Bunham.

Jake Melcer and Chris Zimmer, two Wheatfield men, were arrested by Constable Vick, and put under SSOO bonds for Thursday before Squire Burnham. It seems that a week or two ago the two men were driving out from Wheatfield, when their dog got in a fight with John Clinger’s dog. Clinger came out to help his dog and Meloer knocked him down, with his fist. Clinger got up and started to get in the wagon after Melcer, when the latter jabbed the butt of a rifle in Clinger’s face, hurting him very badly. It was thought they had killed him or fried to, and the farmers all along the road left their work and followed the two men, who, to save their own necks left their wagon and took to the brush. The two afterwards appeared before Squire Spriggs and were assessed a nominal fine. The present affidavit was sworn out by Frank Clinger, a brother of the injured man.
