Rioting at Guadaloupe.
Advices received from Guadeloupe, the French West Indian island of the Leeward group, report a recurrence of serious rioting between the native population and British contract labor immigrant* which culminated in the recent fire. Continuous fierce fighting is said to have taken place on the plantations, and the police and military, it appears, cannot suppress the disturbance. Several fatalities are reported. Hillsboro, Texas, negroes are praying daily that Tom Robinson’s ghost be prohibited from visiting them. Tom was hanged for murder, and just before the drop fell he threatened to send his ghost back to “ha’nt” his murderers. Mrs. Ella Pratt, Gallipolis, Ohio, acquitted of conspiracy with W. O. Ladd to rob and murder Mrs. Lucinda Lewis, has brought suit for $21,000 against Mrs. Lewis. John Alden, white, and John Bird, colored, got drunk in Everett City, Ga. la the windup Bird was found dead.
