One of the few surviving chartists who suffered for their faith is John Goulson Burtt, who recently emerged at the age of 91 from a long retirement to private life to make a speech at Melbourne. He was imprisoned as an agitator sixty years ago, and in the early 'sos went to Australia, where he prospered in business, sat as an advanced radical for North Melbourne, and hel<l office as a minister of the crown. Hla recent address was on the promotion of technical education, and is said to have shown ability and force.
