Charged With False Pretenses.
Wednesday afternoon Constable Christie Vick went over to Monon and arrested .and brought back here one Wm. A. Martin. According to the allegations of the affidavit, some time in March one John B. Ellis, of White county, bought on time a wagon and buggy, a team of horses and a heavy and a light harness of John F. Jndy and W. L. Wood, at Parr. Ellis represented himself, according to the affidavit, as being the owner of a large amount of farming implements and live stock, all of which was described with the minutest particularity, bat which property had no existence in point of fact. On this fictitious property a chattel mortgage was given to secure the payment of the notes Ellis gave for the property got of Wood& Jndy. The charge against Martin is that he stood by and helped Ellis describe this property, which had no existence. Ellis and Martin are charged with obtaining goods by false pretenses, bat so far Ellis has escaped arrest Martin is hold under $250 bond to appear before Squire Burnham, Saturday, at 8 p. m. f for trial. A part of the goods obtained of Judy & Wood have been recovered.
