State Fish Commissioner Sweeney says: ‘’ln 1898 my deputies reported 244 convictions. I believe that public sentiment in regard to observing the fish laws will increase at the same rate during the coming two years, at least I shall do my part to help the good work along.” Prof. James Troop, of the Indiana agricultural experiment station, has been appointed state entomologist. Under the law recently enacted by the legislature of this state he is required to inspect all nurseries in the state where trees and plants are grown for sale and report upon the discovery of insect pests infecting nursery stock.

The war history of the 2nd Illinois regiment, which will pass here Friday, is about the same as that of the 160th and 161st Indiana regiments. That is it did not get out of this country until after the fighting was over, and was then sent to Cuba to do garrison duty through the winter. At the next general election the people of Indiana will vote on two constitutional amendments. One providing for the increase of the number of judges of the supreme court to to serve six years, and the other giving the legislature the right to prescribe qualifications for lawyers.
