FAIR OAKS. Dave Winslow has moved into the Albert Brooks property. Bob Harmon, of Brookston, was in town Snnday and Monday. Miss Ophelia McClanahan, of Parr, visited friends in town last week. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Barker are visiting friends and relatives at Yeddo. Quite a number of our young people attended the social hop at Bruce Moffitt’s last Saturday evening. Mrs. A. Moore, of Rose Lawn was here several days last week on account of the sickness of her father, Miles Moffit. At last accounts he is improving nicely. The Central Telephone office will be moved about May 1, into the room one door east of Leeson’s drug store and will be in charge of Joe Winslow. Mr. Manderville has resigned on account of poor health. Joe will also run a fruit store in connection. Remember the ‘"Dewey Supper,” at the school house, Saturday evening, April 29. Ice cream will be served. After supper a spelling match will be held and a handsome prize will be given to the best speller. Everybody cordially invited. The first meeting of the newly organized Christain Temperance Union was held at the Christain church last Sunday evening. President Mrs. Thornton presided over the meeting and made the opening address. Valuable remarks were also made by other prominent citizens, and were listened to by a large and interesting audience. Several new members were taken in. The»next regular meeting will be held at the M. E. church Sunday evening, May 7th.
NORTH BARLLEY. Lewis Seitz was in Wheatfield, Monday. Wm Hickman of Arcola, 111., is visiting in this vicinity. J. N. Baker and wife did shopping in Rensselaer, Saturday. Mr. Schofield preached at Independent school house, Sunday. Misses Zelma and Minnie Funk visited Maimie Ahlers Sunday. Lewis Brown of Momence was seen in this vicinity, last week.. Misses Orla Hewitt and Clara Look did shopping in Rensselaer, Saturday. Tom Glynn is visiting in Hopkins Park and Momence, this week. John Powley and Bert Long of Kniman visited Russel Baker, SunHerman Ahlers was in Hopkins Park on business a couple of days, last week. The party at Hanns’ Saturday, was not very well attended. Boys were plenty but the girls few. Miss Bell Seitz returned Monday, from her visit to Ada, Ohio. .Miss Huston accompanied her home and will make a short visit here. David Black and Pearl and Joe Davis started for Poplar Bluffs, Missouri, Sunday with six wagons, loaded with furniture and farming implements. DUNNVILLE. Miss Jessie White was a Wheatfield visitor Sunday. The primary room of the Dunnville school closed April 22. Nellie McCrory was the guest of Manda Hbyes Sunday. Rev. Tharp will fill Rev. Hickman’s place ia the pulpit Sunday. Rev. Tharp held services at Dunn-
ville Sunday morning and afternoon. | Miss Marshall, of North Judson, was the guest of Miss Estella White. Jessie White closed her school at Dahncke school-house, Wednesday. ' A very pleasant dance was given at Fred Kellermann’s last Saturday night. Bert Vandercar and Blanche Hill called on Netta Collins Sunday evening. Emmons Miller and Lambert Collins are sawing lumber across the river. Lilly Peregrine has returned from a two weeks’ visit with relatives in Rensselaer. Everett Wynant, teaching at Jackson’s Island, spent Saturday with his parents. Barnet Jackson, who is fireman on a railroad at Anderson, is visiting his sister, Mrs. Johns. Charles La Count from cear Valparaiso was transacting business in our burg the first of the week. A number of young people gathered at the home of Sadie Leon, April 24, and gave her a pleasant surprise. All report a pleasant time. The pupils of the Cedar Ridge school will give an entertainment Wednesday evening May 3, it being their last day of school.
