Wants Tax Dodgers Rounded Up.
Editor Republican. The assessors met on the last day of March and fixed a basis to go by on the different articles to be assessed. Now they should be very careful and assess the property on that basis, as fixed, and see that they find all property. It is a very responsible office, if he does his duty. That some fail to give all their property is an undisputed fact, but by a decision of the supreme court, they can be compelled to show their books. Now I understand what the County Assessor is elected for, to find omitted property and tax dodgers. Also the Tp. Assessors, County Auditor and Board of Review have the power to examine the books of any person, firm or corporation, and see if they have made a true statement of all their property. , I understand that if they fail to do so that they are liable to a heavy fine and imprisonment. That there are per. sons in this county who fail to list all their property is beyond a reasonable doubt. Now it seems to me that it is high time some of them were brought before a bar of justice that they might get their just deserts and it would be a lesson to others, and now Mr. Officers, do your duty, or if you have npt got the backbone, get down and out and let some one else that will. Something must be done and done soon. The road is open so says the highest court of the State of Indiana The people demand that justice be meeted out to the tax dodger. Will it be done?
