Just Missed a Big Contract.

Delos Thompson, president of the Indiana Macadam and Construction Company was up at Crown Point, Thursday, at the letting of the contracts for the 42 miles of stone roads lately voted for in that county. The company was a bidder for the contract, and missed getting it by a very narrow margin. Their bid was $167,850, while that of the successful bidder, Brownell Construction Company, of Chicago, was $167,500, or only $350 less than the Rensselaer company’s bid. How narrow a margin this $350 is on a contract of that size may be understood when it is remembered that $350 is less than one fourth of one per cent, of the amount of the successful bid. If our company had figured their bid 25 cents on the SIOO.OO less, they would got a contract worth a small fortune. As it is they will not be left entirely as they will get to furnish from SIO,OOO to $15,000 worth of rock tor the roads.
