Books and Periodicals Ordered.
The directors of the new public library met Saturday night* and 1 took important action. Namely the ordering of some 670 well selected volumes of standard works. The order was given to the Bowen-Merrill Company, of Indianapolis, their figures being lower by $lO than any other. The price to be paid is $420. In addition to this order a fine new edition of the Century Dictionary, in twelve large volumes has already been purchased, of a young man who was about to leave town. The price was S6O which is a very large reduction from the wholesale price of the work. Besides the books ordered, as above mentioned, some S6O worth of the best periodicals have been subscribed for. Further action taken by the directors was to appoint L. Strong a special committee to collect the subscriptions on stock. Subscribers of the same, who have not already paid for their shares, are requested to call at the Commercial State Bank, and do so at once. 1
