An Unsuccessful Experiment.
Young Mr. Goode has been married only a very short time, but (or perhaps I should say therefore) he had a number of theories as to how to be happy though married. One of these was that the husband should invariably pretend to like his wife’s cooking, whether It was good or bad. One evening Mrs. Goode prepared some biscuits. They were heavy and soggy and absolutely indigestible, but her better half ate heartily of them. (The sequel win show why I caU him the better half.) As he finished the sixth one, be smiled across the table at his wife and said tenderly: “These biscuits are delicious, love. Just like my mothm- used to make.” “You mean thing!” exclaimed his spouse, crossly, “If 1 couldn’t make better biscuits than your mother makes, Pd live in a boarding bouse.” AU of which goes to show that woman is indeed, as the poet says, “Uncertain, coy and bard to pleaae.”—San Francisco Examiner. ; ;
