Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 20, Number 62, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 7 April 1899 — About the Transfer of Pupils. [ARTICLE]

About the Transfer of Pupils.

The Republican recently published the substance of an important new school law, in regard to the transfer of pupils to other school corporations than where they reside, and which law provides that when snoh transfers are made, that the township trustee from which they are transferred shall pay tuition where they are transferred to, at the rate of $1.50 per month in the grades; and $3 per month in high schools. Now there was another school law touching this matter, namely Senate bill No. 73. in which is the provisio that the total tuition in any school year should not exceed $lO for the’ year. This of course

would seriously conflict with the law previously mentioned. But the law requiring the tuition to be $1.50 in grades or $3,00 in high, Schools per month, was the last bill passed and is supposed to repeal the $lO tuition feature of the other bill. This last bill, which is House bill No. 626, has as its next to the’last section, this provision: “All laws and parts of laws in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.” Therefore the tuition rate of $1.50 per month in the grades and $3. for high schools, is probably the law, and the $lO proviso in the other law is likely of no effect.
