The City Council.
Many Street Imyrovements Ordered. Jesse C. Gwin Appointed Councilman. i At the adjourned meeting of the city council last night the mayor and four members were present. Absent Mr. Eger. Jesse C. Gwin was unanimously elected councilman from the third ward, to succeed W. H. Beam, resigned.
Resolutions for the improvement cf a whole lot of streets were adopted, as follows: Cullen anc Forest streets from Washington street to Oak street. Improvement to be of macadam, 30 fee ; wide, with oak curb. Distance 9 blocks.
Clark street from Van Rensselaer to Cullen; 24 feet wide, plank or bouldered curb. Length about 500 feet. Vine street from Forest to Main; 80 feet wide, with gutters. Length, about 900 feet. Cedar street, from Division to Melville, 16 feet wide; length five blocks.
Also the three unimprovec blocks around the court house. That on Van Rensselaer stree; to be 53| feet wide, on Harrison and Cullen streets to be 59 fee; wide, all to be of macadam, anc with brick gutters. A resolution to improve Fores street from Oak to Merritt failed of the necessary vote, but is likely to be bought up again at the next meeting. D. M. Worland was £iven a permit for a frame steel covered building in the rear of Short & Parker’s livery barn, on Van Rensselaer street. The fire committee was directed to purchase proper badges for the officers of the fire company. Also to sell the bell tower and the chemical fire engine. A number of claims were al. lowed.
