A very innocent looking and seemingly commendible little bill that became a law daring the recent session of the legislature, is one that prohibits railroad companies from building lines through graveyards. There was not much attention paid to the bill, but for the most part these members understood that some place or other in the state, they didn’t just know where, some rapacious railroad company was about to force a line through a cemetery. Probably a few members knew what the true purpose of the bill was and got well paid for pushing it. It now developes that the Chicago & West Michigan people have been trying to build a line into Chicago, from Michigan City, along the lake shore. They have secured the right of way most of the distance, without much trouble, but the Knickerbocker Ice Company, of Chicago, which owns a large tract of sand dunes along the ' lake shore would not let them through their lands. And here is where the new law against desecrating graveyards comes in. The ice company has bought a big job lot of second hand “stiffs” from medical colleges, and has proceeded to plant them all over their tract, thus establishing a graveyard through which the railroad can not pass. It is a pretty smart trick, but whether such a “graveyard” as that will pass muster in the courts as a cemetery within meaning of the law, is very doubtful. Anyhow it blocks the . railroad for the time being.
ABE YOU CONSTIPATED?
You may not know it or at least fail to realize it but constipation is the greatest enemy to mankind. This condition unless corrected will bring on Indigestion and Dyspepsia. This condition places the system in such shape that if you are exposed to any one of the different kind of fevers you are sure to be affected thereby. In this condition a large amount of poisonous matter is retained in the system and you are therefore not in a condition to throw off disease. A cold cannot be eradicated when the system is clogged. Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin gives perfect relief for this trouble. Try a 10c bottle just once; you will be convinced. Also in 50c & SI.OO sizes of A. F. Long.
