Uncle Billy Beck.
Wm. Beck was born in Bavaria, Germany, July 11,1820. He died at Rensselaer, Indiana, Monday forenoon, March 20,1899, aged 78 years, 8 months, 9 days. He came to America when a young man living first at Lafayette. He has been a resident of Rensselaer for about 40 years, His home for many years has been just west of town, adjoining Weston cemetery, and of which for more than 20 years he was the faithful sexton, having retired a few years ago on account of poor health. His wife, who survives him was Elizabeth Shanlaub sister of John Shanlaub and of Mrs. John Goetz. By her he leaves six children, Mary Beck, of Sedalia, Mo., Mrs. Caroline Nagel and Mrs. Amzie Meinbrook, both of near town, and Rosa, Wm Jr. and Richard all living at home. “Uncle Billy” as everyone called him was a most excellent and kindly man and had the universal respect and good will of everyone who knew him. His funeral was held Wednesday forenoon, at St. Augustine’s Catholic church, by the pastor, Rev. Father Jacobs. Interment was in Mount Calvary cemetery, south of town.
