The Keener Gravel Road Trouble
The county commissioners put in most of Thursday considering the Keener township gravel road trouble. The contractor, Mr. McGinnis, has met with great difficulties in the work, and has exhausted all his own means and all that the commissioners can advance, # and he is now unable to go ahead with the work. He has therefore agreed with the cdmmissisners that he will turn over the entire charge of the work to a superintendent whom the commissioners will appoint. The- superintendent will have charge of the whole work, such as hiring and paying hands, buying material &c. The agreement does not release the contractor and his bondsmen from their liability on the original contract. One of-the chief causes of Mr. McGinnis’ trouble has been to get gravel to the roads. The Three I road could deliver it where it would be convenient/ but they have made their hauling charges so high that it is impossible to use their route.
