Bad Blow on the Head.
Jack Knight, the painter, met with a severe and painful accident, late Saturday afternoon, and one that might easily have been much worse. He was painting a house out at Swaney Makeever’s farm, some miles west of town, and while working close to the ground, in a nearly sitting position, a heavy oak timber that was standing against the house, fell and struck him on the head. It cut the scalp to the bone a distance of 5 inches, and also knocked him senseless for a short time. He was brought to town and Dr. Johnson dressed the wound, it requiring 13 stiches to retain the scalp in position. The cut is rather on one side of the head, and it is the doctor’s opinion that had the timber struck * little nearer the center, it would have crushed the skull, and caused death. Mr. Knight is now doing very well and an early recovery is confidently expected.
