Late Legislative News.
The legislature came to a final end Monday. They passed a big lot and on the whole, a mighty good lot, of bills. One of the very last bills ap proved by the governor, was the bill changing the times of court in this circuit, and lengthening the terms to four weeks each. It began to be feared that the bill had got lost in the shuffle. Today’s Indianapolis Journal named four bills yet in the governor’s hand, which he intended to take his time to consider. One of these is Knotts’ Kankakee drainage bill. Hereafter owners of mortgaged real-estate may have the same exempted from taxation, to an amount not to exoeed S7OO, nor more than half the assessed value of the land. Superintendents of county poor farms must be appointed for the term of two years, and their needed qualifications are set out at great length.
