The Fire Alarm All Right.
The new steam fire alarm was tried at the light and water station , at one o’clock p. m. Saturday, as per previous notice in The Republican. And it is well that such notice w&s given, for had the whistle been sounded unexpectedly, people would have thought hades had broken loose, for certain. It shrieks, screams, howls, yells, barks, wails and hollers. It is surely sufficient to wake every snoozer in town, except some merchants who don’t believe in advertising and possibly Jean Spitler. Evidently the right fire alarm has been found at last. But on the other side, it is reliably stated that the people at the depot could scarcely hear the alarm today, at all.
