Worland Wins the Horse Case.
The replevin suit of Mrs. Harkrider, of Remington vs D. M. Worland, of Milroy, was tried Monday, at Remington, before Squire Chappell and a jury. This is the case in which Mr. Worland bought a team of horses in Rensselaer of a young man from near Remington, named Harkrider, and which team was claimed by the young man’s mother, who asserted, at least in effect that her son stole the horses. At the trial it was shown that Mrs. Harkrider allowed this son to act as her agent, and that he had previously sold other property of hers, and that she had made no attempt to reclaim it. The jury therefore decided and very properly under the circumstances, that Worland was entitled to hold the horses. C. W. Hanley was Worland’s attorney. This Harkrider who sold Worland the horses is a bad lot, and has already served two terms in the Illinois penitentiary at Joliet, for stealing. He skipped out. as soon as he had sold the team to Mr. Worland.
