Edmund H. Morlan
Edmund. H. Morlan was bom in Columbiana county, Ohio, June 27,1832, died at Rensselaer, Ind., Feb. 15th, 1899, aged 66 years, 5 months, 18 days. He was twice married, first to Elizabeth Johns, by whom he had two children, Ira and Alice Morlan, who survive him. After the ■death of his first wife, and after the civil war, he married Amanda Dillon, who survives him. Five ■children were born to them, of whom three, Charles, Frank and Nora Morlan are living. He moved to Rensselaer in 1859. August 11, 1862 he was mustered in as a member of Co. A. of the 87th Indiana regiment, enlisting in Rensselaer. He served the ■country faithfully in that regiment until July 22nd, 1864 when he was transferred to the engineer corps, and served in that capacity until the end of the war, when he was honorably discharged. After his second marriage he removed to Tippecanoe county, and lived there 6 years, when he moved back to Rensselaer and has ever since made this his home. < - He was a carpenter by vocation, and followed it industriously until the close of last year’s building season. Besides the relatives already mentioned he leaves a brother, Omar Morlan, of this county, and three sisters, Mrs. Grrant, of this county, Miss Catherine Morlan, of East Liverpool, Ohio and Mrs. Cynthia Stapleton, of Signal, Ohio. All these relatives, except the one last mentioned, were present at the funeral. The funeral was held at the residence Friday, Feb. 17 th, at 2 p. m, services by Elder N. H. Sheppard, of the Christian church. It was largely attended, including about 60 G. A. R. men and other old soldiers, in a body. The pall bearers were Benj. Harris, Norman Warner, Robt, Y. Yeoman, J. H. Cox, Shelby Grant and W. S. Day. Interment was in Weston cemetery.
