The Grim Reaper’s Dread Harvest.
Mere Depths Than Ever Before In An Equal Length of Time. REASON F. GODDARD. Reason F. Goddard, died Sunday moving, at 2:30 o’clock, at his residence on Front street. He was an old resident and of wide acquaintance. He was bom in Flemming County, Ky., June 13, 1816; He moved to Crawfordsville, this state, while young and was there married tp Mary C. Peebles. She died Sept. 14, 1880. They had no children. From Crawfordsville he moved to Lafayette, and in 1852 became a resident of Rensselaer, remaining such until his death. At Lafayette he kept a hotel, and in Rensselaer for quite a long time, he had a butcher shop and bakery. He was a soldier in the Mexican war, in an Indiana regiment, but which, we understand did not get to the front until the war was ended. He leaves one brother and several half brothers bat their places of residence are unknown. The only relative present for the funeral is a neice, Mrs. Laura Robinson, wife of W. D. Robinson, now of Hammond, Hie age at death was 82 years, 5 months, and 22 days. The funeral was held at bis late residence on Front street, at 2180. this Monday, afternoon, Feb. 6th, by Rev. C. D. Jeffries, of the Presbytertian church. Interment in Weston cemetery. ALFRED DART. Alfred Dart died Saturday Feb. 4th, 1899, at 10 a. m., at the home of his son-in-law, Levi Clouse,, three miles south of Rensselaer. He had reached the very advanced age of 87 years, 1 month and 15‘ days. Old age and an attack of grip caused his death. He was born near Cincinnati, Ohio, Dec. 24, 1811. He moved to eastern Indiana 35 years ago, and to Jasper county 18 years ago. His home has been with Mrs. Clouse for six years. He had 8 children, six of whom survive him, namely, Mrs. Alice Clouse, George Dart, Alfred Dart and May Dart of Rensselaer; Frank Dart, of Sheldon, 111., Mrs. Laura Moore, of Newton county, Ind. The children were all present at the fuueral. It was held Sunday afternoon, at Mr. Clouse’s residence, by Elder Carson, of Remington Christian oh arch. Interment in Weston cemetery. • EDWARD C. HALL. Edward C. Hall, a railroad section man, died Sunday morning, Feb. sth, at 9 o’clock, at his home in the northwest part of town. He had been sick about four weeks, first with pleurisy and later complicated with a heart trouble. He was apparently, getting much better, until be was suddenly taken worse, and died within 15 minutes, and before a physician could reach him. His age was about 45 years. He had lived in this county only a little more than one year, having previously lived at Knox, His wife died the 9th of December, last. They leave three yonng children, a girl of about three and two boys of about 4 and 6 respectively- The boys have already been given homes by relatives of Mrs.' Hall, bat a good home for the little girl is now being looked for. Mr. Hall leaves no near relatives, so far as known, except his father, a very aged man £who lives in Starke county. A report that Mr. Hall had married again and therefore left a widow, is erronions. The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7tb, at the residence, at 10 a. m. The services will be conducted by Rev. N. H.
Sheppard. Interment in Weston cemetery. MRS. WILLIS STUMP. Mrs. Willis Stump, who. lived in the eastern part of Hanging Grove Tp., died Friday, Fed. 3rd. It is stated that she has been sick with the grip for some time, and about a week ago she gave birth to a still-born child. The family came from some part of Illinois a few years ago and the remains have been taken hack there for interment. GOTTLEB WACHTEL. The death of Gottleb Wachtel occured at McCoysbnrg, also on Friday, in the afternoon. The cause of his death was the grip, with which he had been sick for About a week. He lived with his don Godfrey Wachtel, and had lived in this connty only about one year. He formerly lived at Dyer, in Lake county. His age was 77 years and 7 months. Besides the son mentioned he has another son at Elkhart, Ind. The funeral was held at McCoysbnrg Sunday afternoon, and burial was made at Osborne cemetery. STEWARD WARD. Steward Ward died Wednesday night, Feb. Ist, at midnight, at his home five miles southeast of town. The cause of hfs death was pneumonia and heart trouble. He was born hear Rising Sun, Jan. 11th, 1820, and lived in Decatur, Tipton and Boone counties nntil six years ago, when he moved to this county. His age was 79 years, and 21 days. He was the father of 12 children, ten of whom are still living. The funeral was held at the residence Sunday morning and interment be made in Crockett cemetery. Elder N. H Sheppard conducted the services.
