Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 20, Number 43, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 31 January 1899 — Five Biff Wolves. [ARTICLE]
Five Biff Wolves.
Since the $lO bounty on old wolf scalps went into effect, the bounty has been claimed on five wolves. John Johnson, who himself lives in White county, brought in two of these which he alleged were killed in Milroy Tp. He shot them on successive days, and in each case some one else had first tired the wolves out with dogs; and it would look as though the owners of the dogs were justly entitled to the big end of the bounty, but probably they would have difficulty in bringing Mr. Johnson to that point of view. B. S. Fendig, our local fur dealer, bought the skins of these two wolves, and one of them he says is the largest wolf skin he ever saw. It was a gray wolf and from the size of the skin, he must, indeed, have been a monstrous big one. The other three wolves were claimed by T. J Snyder, and were killed in Union. The method of their capture we did not learn.
