The Alter Prosecution Recommenced.

The indictment against John E. Alter, ex-county suveyor, was quashed last Monday, and leave then given the prosecuting witness, John Jessen, to re-instate the case against him by affidavit. Nothing further was done about the matter however, until Wednesday evening, a few hours after the case against Editor Babcock was dismissed, when Mr. Jessen appeared before the state’s attorney and filed an affidavit against Mr. Alter. From certain hints dropped by a certain attorney, it is probable that the parties who are pushing Mr. Alter’s prosecution regarded the proceeding against Mr. Babcock as a sort of club over their heads, and the re-instatement of the case against Mr. Alter was perhaps purposely delayed until the case against Mr. Babcock was out of the way.
