When snow Is deep and mercury’s low, And farmers ’round their pumps must throw Old sacks and straw so they’ll not freeze: And when with care their boots they grease—’Tis then, O Time, you pass too slow. 'TIs then the placid, broad St. Joe Has lost all charms. Ne'er more I trow Will 1 be seen beneath thy trees When snow Is deep. In bllthsome June full oft I know I’d wander 'long thy banks where grow Old Nature's sweets In summer’s breeze— While all around were murmuring bees. But that time’s past.
