George M. Robinson.
George M. Robinson was born in Summit County, Ohio, May 5, 1844, where he resided until 1864, when he came to Jasper county which he has since made his home. He married Mary E. Catt, Jan. Ist 1868, and who, with thirteen children survive him. Also his aged mother, and one sister, and two brothers, Mrs. Thomas Thompson and Oliver P. Robinson, of Rensselaer and Welcome D. Robinson, of Hammond. He was elected sheriff of Jasper county in 1876 and re-elected in 1878, serving two terms of two years each in that capacity. In 1882 he was elected county auditor and serving in that responsible position two terms, ot tour years each. As a public official he was very efficient and accommodating. He was appointed postmaster of Rensselaer in April 1898, but owing to continued poor health has had but little to do with the direct mauageiuout of the office. He always took great interest in political matters and for many years, was, unquestionably far the most influential politician in this county, and few if any were more so in his congressional district. He was long a member of Iroquois Lodge, No. 143 of Odd Fellows, and of Rensselaer Lodge, No. 82, of Knights of Pythias, and the two orders will jointly have charge of the funerd services, which will be held Friday, at the residence, at 2:30 P. M. Rev. C. D. Jeffries will conduct the religious services. He died at scarcely beyond the prime of life, bis age being 54 years, G months and 23 days.
