Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 20, Number 32, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 23 December 1898 — Cover-Nearhoff. [ARTICLE]
Cover-Nearhoff.
It was Squire Wm. H. Churchill’s privilege, on Tuesday Dec. 20th, 1898 to preform the marriage ceremony for Mr. George W. Cover, of Fair Oaks and Mrs. Mary E. Nearhoff, of Union Township. The happy but not wholly youthful couple have had a considerable measure of matrimonial experience before, it being a third marriage in each case. The groom is 62 years old and the bride 55. The bride’s last previous husband’s name was Grimes, and the fact that her name was Nearhoff is explained by the circumstance that in this instance, the line that “Old Grimes is dead that good old man” does not apply, but must be amended by inserting “divorced” in the place of “dead.” z\.nd when the divorce was granted her, Mrs. Grimes reverted back to her former name of Nearhoff. The Republican wishes prosperity and contentment to the newly married couple, and would add, the customary “many happy returns of the day” if that wish is in good place on this occasion.
