Broke Jail at Delphi.
Sheriff Reed has received notice of a jail delivery at Delphi, which took place Friday night. The prisoners that escaped were James Ward and Charles Hunt. Ward is an important prisoner. He is charged with being one of the parties who blew up and robbed the Flora bank, and badly wounded the proprietor, a few months ago. He is 5 ft. 8 inches tall, heavy build, broad shoulders dark complexion, and intelligent appearance, all of which, especially the last item would pretty nearly induce Sheriff Reed to arrest himself on suspicion so nearly does the description fit him. But Ward had a dark mustache, and that lets Nate out, for he has been wearing his smiles smooth shaven for some time past. Hunt is 6 feet tall and rather stout, and evidently would be a good subject for one of Ellis & Murray’s “korrect fit for odd shape men” clothing. And evidently he needs a suit, for the description mentions nothing that he wore except a sweater, and a pair of shoes, even the intelligent look evidently being wanting, in his case. His color about the gills is light. He is charged with grand larceny. The reward offered is $25, which is not an extravagant sum to offer, for a man wanted for blowing up a bank and stealing §IO,OCX).
