Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 20, Number 30, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 16 December 1898 — Method is Satisfactory. [ARTICLE]

Method is Satisfactory.

The state board of health is finding its new method of treating diptheria and other contagious diseases perfectly satisfactory. The new method consists of an examination of the pupils of the schools, and all children suspected of being infected are, sent home. A second examination of those sent home is made and this in case of scarlet fever is especially severe. The schools are thus continued instead of being closed. The plan has been tried successfully at a number of towns, Morristown, North Salem, Macy and Rochester. At the last named town, out of twenty-five sent home as suspects of diphtheria, eight were found on second examination to be infected.
