An Ice Crop That is a Nice Crop.
The best crop of ice that over was put up in Rensselaer is now being gathered. The ice is ten and eleven inches thick and clear as crystal and solid and heavy as rock. C. C. Starr has 14 or 15 men hard at work filling his big house, on the river banks of 500 tons capcaity. Moody & Roth have about 10 or 12 hands at work. They will put up about 250 tons in their two houses, one back of Mr. Moody’s residence, the other down the river, at the slaughter house. Hildebrands are also filling their ice hduse, beginning today. J. J. Eigelsbach will begin tomorrow. Ice below town where there is more current is not quite so thick as at Starr’s and Moody's ponds above town.
