SURREY. R. A. Hopkins attended Institute at Parr last Saturday. The Institute was interestingly conducted by B. D. Comer, Tp. Trustee. John Gwin, of Rensselaer, was in attendance in the afternoon for some cause or other. Jno, Fisher and wife and Zell Fisher and family visited at Mr. Blancett’s last Sunday. Louis Wilcox, of this place, and Geo. Hopkins, of Rensselaer, visited friends at Remington last Sunday. Louis said he was unable to tell whether they had a “hot time” or a “cold time,” but thought circumstances favored the latter. Loia Bruce delivered books on “War with Spain” in this vicinity last Monday'. Co. Surveyor Alter surveyed some ditches for G. M. Wilcox last Tuesdaj . A good vein of water was found by the well-men last Monday and by applying the pump there was found to be an adequate supply of water. It is sulphur water and was gotten by drilling 116| ft. At 92 ft. rock was -.truck, thus making the well 24£ in the rock. C. A. Hopkins shipped a fine load of hogs last Wednesday night. He accompanied the load to Chicago. About 9:30 a. m. last Wednesday fire was discovered dropping from the ceiling of the school house to the floor. Quite a little excitement prevo:lr>d for a little time but it was soon extinguished with but little damage, when the regular program carried out. It was caused by a defective flue. .
