To The Farmers.
And Breeders of Poland China Swine. It may be of interest to the farm- 1 ers and breeders to know that F. O. Meara, engineer at the River Queen Mills, has purchased one of th 6 very best breed hogs in the state of lowa. Young Chief, No. 31009, is a son of Old Chief Tecumseh 2d No. 14579, and all breeders of fancy Poland Chinas will recognize his name at a glance, as one of the greatest 4 hogs of that breed of tjpe present day. This, Young Chief will weigh now, in very thin condifion, 500 lba. and he has weighed in show fix, 800 lbs. Any aud all interested are invited to call at my place and look him over. He is in very thin condition now, and no one need expect to see a nice fat, sleek, hog. But the experienced eye can see the good points without the fat sleek part. The services of this fellow is $2. If the farmers would try to improve the breeding of their herds of cattle and hogs, as they do in the western states, by using the very best thorough-bred sires obtainable, even though you nave to pay a utile advance in price, of what you pay for a scrub, you are putting good dollars in your pocket by doing so. And we think it would be but a few years or months, we might say, until you would not think the times so hard and you would not find it so hard to pay off that debt, if von are so unfortunate, as to owe any. You would then feel happier with your self and with the world of-people. Most Respectfully, Frank O. Meara, - Rensselaer, Ind.
