Four Reliable States.
The States of Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and lowa have given the following Republican pluralities: lowa 60,500 Wisconsin 3C.200 Michigan 63,300 Indiana 14,300 These Stntes have done well. The plurality in lowa is only 2,000 loss than in 1800; that in Indinnn, which the Democrats made great efforts to carry, only 8,000; while that in Michigan is greater by 7,000 votes than in 1800. It looks as if the gold Democrats there who voted for Talnier two years ago had cast Republican votes this year, or- it is more likely—ns if all the bolting silver Republicans have come back to the fold. Wisconsin did not make quite as good a showing, for the Republican plurality two years ago was 102,000. That was abnormally large, however, and the Republicans of the State deserve credit for having been able to hold their own so well in an off year when they had so many things to fight against. Although there is a falling off in the majority, there is a solid Republican delegation of ten members. That is something to lie proud of. Chicago Tribune. Result Far-Reaching' The result is more far-reaching in its consequences than the most sanguine Republican had anticipated. It not only gives assurance that the monetary and foreign (ioliey of the administration will be sustained, but gives notice to Spnin that all hope of any advantage to bo gained to its cause by a Democratic victory la this country was baseless. With this hope swept away, there is reason to be l lievo that the negotiations of the jwaoe commission in I’nris will now lie brought (e a speedy and successful tcrnmialron.
