The City Council.
The city council held an adjourned meeting, Tuesday night. The tire committee and tire warden were empowered to purchase a steam fire alarm whistle, with a wild wierd tone, to be operated from the water and light station. It will cost about S2O or S3O. It was petitioned for by Geo. E. Murray and 70 others. On recommendation of Fire Chief Hemphill, J. E. Hawkins was elected Ist assistant chief, and Eldon R. Hopkins 2nd assistant chief. , The proposed sewer on Plum, Franklin and Main streets was indefinetely post-poned; but may be taken up again in the spring. The fire warden paralyed the council by asking that free drinking fountains for water, be established; also wntering places for horses; and very good suggestions they are. A number of claims were allowed and several others carried over ! to the next meeting.
