Comment and Comparisons.

The Republican plurality ou the state ticket in this county, this year, is 475. In 1896 the Republican majority on the presidential vote, over the combined Democrat and Populist Bryan vote, was 425. This is a gain this year of 60 for the Republicans. But last electicn the Republican majority over all was 409. This year it is 332. But two years ago there were in all 3,775 votes cast in the county. This year only 3,132. A falling off of 643 votes. Therefore the Republican majority over all this year is as large in proportion as it was in 1896. The total Republican vote is 1,732; in 1896 it was 2,032, a falling off of 300. The combined Bryan vote in 1896 was 1,608. This year the Democratic vote is 1,257, a falling off of 351. But this is partly accounted for by the 68 votes cast for Morrison, the middle-of-the-road Populist. The Prohibitionists seem to be reviving a little. In 1896 they cast only 23 votes in the oounty. This year they cast 75 votes.
