False To The Last.

The Democrat’s Dishonest State--4 ments About Keener Gravel Roads. The new slander in the Demo w crat’s last issue is a two column article in regard to the gravel roads now in process of building in Keener township. The assertion is made that $13,269.27, have been paid on the roads and only two of the 16 miles built. The idea being, of course to create the belief that altogether too much has been paid on the contract for the amount of work done. Further, all through the article, the impression sought to be conveyed is that the whole of the $13,209.27 was paid by Keener township. Now as to the amount of work done on the road by the contrator, two miles of finished rosd, is the least part of it. The whole 16 miles are graded, the pike being 30 feet wide on top. Nine large hills have been cut down to a grade of 3 feet to the 100; and all sewer pipes put in. As to the point sought to be made that the $13,209.27 all comes out of Keener Tp., the fact is that 23 of the items mentioned are paid by the county, out of the county revenue. Among these are $1,983.58 for bridges. Also all engineers’ bills, all costs for attorneys, all printing bills etc included in this statement of the Democrat are paid by the county. Mr. McGinnis, the contractor of the roads, is a very estimable man, although a Democrat, and he is doing, by all accounts, a good honest job on these roads, and will give the people cf the township the full value of their money. Ho has not been overpaid on the work already done.
