County Correspondence

FAIR OAKS. Election day Tuesday. Get out the full vote. Kitty Piper, of Rose Lawn, visited Mrs. Peter Nelson last, Friday. Newton McKay, of Monon, spent Sunday with his family. Edna Brady left for Gocdlaud, Monday to remain for the winter. John Mundon, of Goodland, brakeman on thd C. & E. I. Ry., visited his parents last Saturday. The Ladies’ Aid Society of the M. E. church, will serve hot coffee and lunch in the school house on , election day. Several of the boys from here attended the play “Faust"’ at Rensselaer last night and were well pleased. Several of the boys from here attended the institution of the new Odd Fellows’ lodge at Shelby, last Saturday night. Fish Gilmore and Franc Geasy are out for constable on the Republican and Democratic ticket.

Master Artie Odel is fast recovering and is now able to set up, but two of his brothers are quite sick with the same disease typhoid malaria. Mrs. Gus Mundon received a telegram last week announcing the serious illness of her mother, near Rensselaer, and she has gone to her bedside. •• Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nelson, of Beverly, Kans., are making a several weoks’ visit to friends and relatives. Mrs. Katie Dexter and son, of Goouiaud, formerly of this place, visited old friends Monday and left for Rensselaer to visit friends and relatives for several days. Fred Fuller, the Monon section boss, returned Wednesday evening from West Duluth, Minn., called there on Tuesday of last week by telegram announcing the very serious illness of a sister who died last Saturday. Geo. Hurley filled Mr. Fuller’s place during his absence.

SURREY.

Hunting and corn-liusking are the order of the day. Mrs. Williams is so far upon the road of recovery that her condition is very favorable for a complete restoration. » Chas. Pullins shipped a fine load of cattle from here last Wednesday. Louis Wilcox made a “tly trip” to Chicago last Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher attended a turkey roast at Mr. Blancett’s last Sunday. The teachers of Union Tp. have a day off this year to visit the schools, and Mr. Bringle, of Parr and Mr. Pierson, of Brushwood spent last Friday with Robert Hopkins at Surrey. Things are looming up O. K. for boys of the Republican ranks.

NORTH BARKLEY.

Eva Meitzler and Orla Hewitt did shopping in Rensselaer Saturday. Lewis Brown who has been visiting in Kankakee, 111., for the past week returned home Saturday. * Leady Decrow of Wheatfield, and Theodore Whicker of Medaryville, visited G. W. Fanson Sunday. Alf. Donnelly of Rensselaer, was in this vicinity Thursday and Friday buying onions. / 40* Fanson and Callahan shipped a oar of onions to Louisville, .Kentucky, Saturday. John Diltz of Rose Lawn, is visiting Jim Griggs a few days this week. Born to Mr. and Mrs G. M. Fanson on Monday morning a girl. Dr Sohroere reports mother and child doing nicely. John Baker and family visited

John Richmond in Walker township Saturday and Sunday. Corn husking is all the go; it is not turning out as well as expectt en. T. M. Callahan is taking feed reports on the east side* There is a rush on onions this week. Aaron Seitz shipped one car load, Harry Giffoyd two, T. M. Callahan three. All go to Louisville, Kentucky.

McCOYSBURG.

Since the second diptheria storm has passed over everything is on a forward movement. . The school has again resumed its duties and progressing nicely. McCoysburg school house is being prepared for a severe winter Jby getting a new coat of plaster, which it badly needed. Mr. and Mrs. Arnott will occupy the hous£ just vacated by the elder Mr. Arnott and family. On the account of sickness there was no meeting the past two weeks, There will be both C. E. and preaching next Sunday evening. Let everybody come. Halloween night was w T ell celebrated here by the little boys and a great deal of mischief done, though no apparent damage. Everybody come and hear A. McCoy and his singers Friday evening on the political situation. Word was received here today of the burning of the Osborne livery barn Monday evening. The lose will be quite heavy as no insurance was carried.
