The Charges Have “ Broken Down.”
The Indianapolis News was very severe on the mismanagment of the war and said some very harsh things about the administration. It has changed its mind and is honorable enough to make the proper amends. It now says: “The American people are to be congratulated on the fact that, under the evidence before the President’s commission, the sensational charges against the conduct of the war seem to have broken down. Already several prominent officers have given testimony, and this has failed to confirm the wild charges of willful neglect, mismanagement and of corruption.”
