Young Christians may make mistakes in working for Christ, but they make a greater mistake in not working for Him. The writer had the pleasrue of attending the union Rally Day exercises of Barkley Township at the Christian church at Valma last Sunday. It was indeed a day of railing and a very helpful, live meeting throughout. Pres. Faris and wife with several others from a distance were present. The music was unusually good. The North Lawn school did themselves credit the way they sang the number assigned them. At the close of the meeting after a few well chosen remarks from Elder Brady as to the purpose of the meeting a liberal collection was taken for state work. Rally Day is one of the many good things that originated in our own state and after three years of trial we know it to be a grand good thing, let every school in the county who has not already done so, observe it. Environment is supposed to settle the question of what a man is and what a man does. Environment is merely a cant phrase for surroundings. A man’s surroundings do have a great deal to do with shaping his character and his career but in the long run what is inside of a man is far more importance to him and to others than what is outside of him. When a man meets obstacles in his surroundings his environment if left to itself would stop his progress but if his inner self is determined to go ahead he surmounts the obstacles and proves himself a hero, the man who yields to his environment ordinarily proves a failure. The hero who will not yield to his surroundings has true success in spite of his environment.
