A Big Pile of Gold.
, 1 —— B. J . Giffcprd came from Kankakee this morning carrying a small but evidently very heavy satchel. Se was defendant in a case in the circuit court, in which a Philadelphia trust company is plaintiff. When the case came up Mr. Gifford opened his grip and took therefrom $7210 in gold coin, and paid it into the court, on the plaintiff’s claim. The money was receipted for and then deposited in McCoy’s bank. The payment reduced the claim of the trust company to so small a figure as to shut them out (from having the case transferred to the U. S. Courts, for which their attorney, Mr. Chilcote, had a motion pending. That much gold would weigh about 35 pounds.
