The Dead Soldier Boy.
The body of Wallace D. Stivers, late of Company 1., of the 161st Indiana regiment, arrived here Monday morning, on the 4:30 train, accompanied by Samuel Ballard, of Monon, a member of his company. The body was not removed from the depot, and when the 10:55 train arrived it was taken thereon to Waynetowu, in Montgomery county, where the funeral will be held Tuesday. Wallace died Thursday night, Oct. 13, at Jacksonville, Florida, after a sickness of six days, of a stomach troubl?. He was born at Waynetown, July 30, 1880, and his age was therefore 18 years, 2 months and 13 days. Though young he was, until his sickness a good soldier and well liked by comrades and officers; all of whom did everything they could for him. He bad been in apparent good health until the beginning of his brief but fatal sickness. Samuel Ballard, of Monon, a meqiber of his company accompanied the body here. He reports that young Stivers’ death was the second to occur in the company. He leaves a mother, Mrs. R. A. Gibson, two brothers and one sister. 20 lbs granulated sugar for sl.
