The Klondike Social.
The Klondike social given by the Rebekahs Saturday evening, for the Odd Fellows’ orphan home fund, realized $17.40. Each gentleman present panned out a nugget of gold fram a miners’ pan, and the same when opened contained the name of a lady present, who would be his partner at supper. The couple would be weighed separately, and the gentleman would pay for their supper as many cents as there were pounds difference in their weights. Of course the lucky miners got partners of about the same weight as themselves, and their suppers cost but little. The unlucky one# would have much lighter or much heavier partners, and their suppers •would come high. The luckiest man was L. L. Fonsler, he weighed 119 pounds and his partner, Miss Lessie Bates. 120. Ponsler’s bill was therefore only 1 cent, and he ate his money’s worth. J. F. Irwin weighed in with Mrs - Jesse Nichols. Retook a Nichol to supper and it only cost him a nickel. Sim Dowell drew a lightweight, Miss Lynn, and he had to put up 88 cents. Being a candidate, he paid without any kick. Schuyler Irwin drew Miss Sylvia Robinson, and his supper cost him 65 cents. Jesse Nichols was a lucky number, his bill was only 4 cents. Wm. Washburn had to put up 50 cents, which was pretty hard on William.
