Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 20, Number 13, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 18 October 1898 — Sunday School Column. [ARTICLE]
Sunday School Column.
Conducted by W. C. Smalley, REMINGTON, INDIAN^. An ounce of cheerfulness is worth a pound of sadness to'seive the Lord with. •> Don’t forget to Rally this fall. Hold - separate Rally Days if possible but if not then combine all the schools of the Township in a union service and make it a Rouser and find out just what forces yon can count on for the winter. There are a few townships who have not yet held their fall convention. Milroy, Jordan, Keener and Walker each should hold one before Jan. Ist, Township Presidents look after this. The Co. officers are ready to assist you at any time, who will be first. Three score and ten seems a short period to be called a lifetime but when we think it is bound np with its fulness it does not seem so strange. It is to him who is most active, always thinking, feeling, working, caring for people and for things that life seems short. Strip a life empty, make it one of inactivity and it will seem long enough.
The date of our Co. Convention has at last been named, it will be held in Rensselaer on Nov. 22nd and 23rd! We had hoped to have held it about the middle of Oct. but have been.disappointed in geting speakers First we had a partial promise of Prof. Hamill it is barely possible he may be with us yet, we will use our utmost effort to get him. Miss Markest, our very efficient State House Dept. Supt. had to go to the south part of the state and could not be with us. Also State Supt. Meigs had an engagement with the Pennsylvania S. S. Assn, to attend their State Convention Oct. 20th. While this is somewhat later than we have been in the habit of holding our annual meeting we believe withthe splendid program we have prepared we shall surpass any convention of former years. Our State Supt. will be with us and deliver a lecture on Tuesday evening the 22nd on “What I saw when I went to sea and what I saw beyond” while at the Worlds 3rd Sunday School held in London, Eng. last July, also a vivid description of the fire on board their ship in mid ocean with many other interesting things. Now let us begin right now to talk and think about this county convention. Work for it, get up a good delegation from every school in the Co. and all enjoy the feast of good things that comes to us but once a year. A full program will appear in this column later.
