FootBall Season Opened.

Chalmers and Battle Ground Are Easy Victims. The opening of the Rensselaer Athletic park to foot ball for this season, with outside teams, came yesterday afternoon when Chalmers came up to try conclusions with the doughty champions of last year. Though the boys were hardly in shape, and were in need of practice they put up a stiff game and easily won out over their beefy opponents by a score of 40 to 0. Chalmers won the toss and took the ball, while Marshall took the east goal. George Healey, well known here, played full back for them and he kicked off to Clouse, who saw four yards ere he was tackled, then by a straight punch through guard, and a short run around right end, the needed five yards were gained. The ball was then passed to Brinley, who skirted off left end, and with a clear field row for a touch down. Less than a minute had elapsed since the kick off until Brinley was sitting down on the pigskin behind the goal. Brinley kicked kicked goal. Score R —6; C —o. Chalmers again kicked off, this time to Marshall, who advanced the ball 25 yds. With a few good line bucks and end plays by Yeoman, Brinley Wright and Marshall, the ball was carried up the field for another touch down, Brinley going over the line through tackle and end Brinley kicked goal, and the score was 12 to 0. Then the boys from down the line seemed to lose courage and the red and black with practically no obstruction gained two more touch downs, Brinly failed one goal. The score at the end of the first half being 23 to 0 in savoy of Rensselaer, and Chalmers not having possession of the pigskin once after the play commenced.

, 111 the second half Brinley kicked off to who fumbled. Then Smith attempted to carry the ball but lost four yards, Grove next lost two, then Healey tried but could not gain the coveted 11 yards, and the ball went to Rensselaer on downs. Then followed a succession of rapid plays until Wright went over with a rush. Brinley failed to kick goal. Score 28 to 0. Then Chalmers again kicked off. and our boys took the ball up the field at will. Brinly trying several times to kick goal from field and giving Chalmers the ball on the 25 yard line Each time they failed to hold it for three consecution downs and our boys carried the ball over two more touch down. Each time Brinley kicked goal. Our boys have a good team and expect to soon better it by practice and work and they deserve a better crowd than was out yesterday.
