Some County Candidates.

SIMEON A. DOWELL. There seems to be an opinion in some quarters that Simeon A. Dowell, Republican candidate for Commissioner for the second commissioners’ district, is somewhat of a new comer in this county and therefore not so familiar with the needs and wishes of our people as be ought to be. This is a mistake, and probably originated from the fact that Mr. Dowell moved to the vicinity of Rensselaer a few years ago, about the time many new people were moved here from other states and counties, and in some way, he may have been classed with them. But the fact is Mr. Dowell has lived in Jasper county continuously for the past 23 years, or about all his life since reaching manhood. He lived 18 years in Barkley township "land 5 years in Marion, now living on his farm, three miles fiom Rensselaer. He moved to this county from Illinois, but for all that he is a native Hoosier, and as proud of his native state as he is of his adopted county He was born in Bartholomew county, this state, in 1852. and has lived in this state all his life except about 15 years spent in Illinois. He is a farmer and stockraiser and is well-to-do financially, and a good business manager for himself and will be the same for the public. Personally he is very genial and pleasant and popular with all who know him. He is strictly temperate, honest, honorable, and in short, “straight as a gouge” in every way. He will make an excellent county commissioner.
