The Coming Lecture Course.
Rensselaer is to have another. Lecture Course this winter. The Fortnightly Fiction. Club which now numbers some fifty members have taken the matter in hand and have closed a contract for a course of three numbers. There will be two lectures and one musical. The very best talent obtainable has been secured for each of these. A member stated to us that it was the unanimous opinion of the Club that it wou|d be better to have fewer numbers in the Course and a higher class of entertainment. The Fiction Club has taken up this enterprise entirely in a philanthropic spirit. Every dollar collected from the patrons of the Course by the sale of tickets will be strictly accounted for to the public. An itemized statement we are informed will be published at the close of the season showing every item of receipt and disbursement and the surplus, if any, will be used either to provide another number in the Course this year or if not sufficient to secure this will be carried over as a part of a Lecture Fund for next year. This is certainly fair and the course thus conducted should have the unqualified and hearty support of all our citizens. The first number will be Dr. Hillis, of Chicago. Subject, “Buskins Message to the Twentieth Century.” Dr. Hillis is one of the strongest men on the lecture platform, and no one can afford to miss an opportunity to. hear him.. The second number will be a Musical by the Sherwood Concert Company one .0f the finest ccnffierV companies anywhere-. This number alone costs $125 and will be a rare treat. The third number is given by John Temple Graves, pre-em-inently the greatest orator in the lecture field today. This one number will be worth the price of the whole Course, if we may believe the unaminous report of those who have heard him. The charge we are informed will be one dollar and fifty cents for season tickets including reserved seats. Single admissions will be 75 cents. »It is hoped the Club will receive sufficient support to enable them to add another attraction this season, which will probably be Robert Burdette.
