Obituary.
Another one of Jasper County’s old settlers passed away at his late home in Union Township Sept. 27th, 1898, at the ripe old age of 87 years 5 months 1 day. Washington Casey, son of John and Nancy Casey, was born in Guilford Co., North Carolina April 26th 1811. Thence moved with his parents to the state of Ohio in the year 1823. Was married to Miss Ellener Cary, January 31st., 1846, in which state they resided until 1855; thence they moved to Wabash Co., Indiana; thence to Jasper Co. in the Spring of 1857. Three years later they moved to his present home in Union Township. He united with the Disciples or Christian church the 4th Lord’s Day in August 1878, and was baptised by Elder Shortridge. Within the last two years he has often expressed himself as only waiting until the good Lord would take him home. His life went out as calm and peaceful as the evening sunset. He had no children of his own, but raised an adopted son, George W. Casey. The funeral services were conducted at his late home by Elders A. E. Pierson and J. L. Brady. The burial was at Mt. Tabor cemetery.
