ORDINANCE NO. 52

An Ordinance Restricting the Congregating of Children Under the Age of Sixteen Years on the Streets , Alleys, and Pub * lie Places of the City of Rensselaer, Providing for the Ringing of a Curfew Bell; Repealing all Laws in Conflict Therewith and Declaring an Emergency. Be it ordained by the Common Counoil of the City of Rensselaer; Sec. I. That it shall be unlawful for any child under the age of sixteen years to be and remain upon the streets, alleys or public places of the City of Rensselaer, Indiana, after the hour of 7:30 o’clook P. M. and before the hour of 4 o’clock A. M. during the months of October, November, Deoember, January, February and March, and after the hour of 8:30 P. M and before the hour of 4 o’clook A. M. during the months of April, May, June, July, August and September, unless such child be accompanied by its parent or guardian. Sec. 11. It shall be the duty of the City Marshal or his deputy to cause the school house bell to be tapped three times consecutively each night at the hour designated in Section I. All children under the age of sixteen years shall immediately vacate the streets, alleys and public places of said city of Rensselaer and proceed without delay to their homes or lodging places, unless such child or children be and are accompanied by a parent, guardian or governess, or are in charge of an adult with the authority of such parent, guardian or governess. Sec. 111. Any person or persons found violating sections I arid II of this ordinance shall, upon oonviction, be fined in any sum not less the One Dollar nor more than Ten ($10.00) Dollars for each offense. It is made the SPECIAL duty of the City Marshal and his Deputies to strictly enforce this ordinance. Sec. IV. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in any way affecting this ordinance are hereby repealed. Sec. V. Whereas, an emeigency exists for the immediate taking effect of this ordinance the same shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as required by la^. Rensselaer, Ind. September 14, 1898. I, Schuyler C. Irwin, Clerk of said City of Rensselaer, Indiana, do hereby certify the foregoing to be a full, true and complete copy of Ordinance No. 52, as ordained and established by the Common Council of said City at a regular meeting thereof held on the 12th day of September 1898, as appears from the original ordinance on file in my office.
