Will Manufacture Diamonds.
Hudson Maxim, the inventor of an electric light, the Maxim gun and numerous other tilings, now' claims that he has discovered the process of making genuine diamonds. He has secured patents in this country and in England covering his invention. His process is an electric furnace, in which the metal, calcium carbide and acetylene, In the presence of carbon, can be melted and raised to an exceedingly high temperature by an electric current, causing a heavy absorption of carbon, while at the same time the metals are subjected to a pressure of 50,000 pounds per square Inch by means of a hydraulic press. The precipitation under these conditions, when allowed to cool slowdy, will give diamonds of considerable size.
