All Recent Democrats Indorse This.
In common with all decent Democrats, the venerable editor of the DemoeratiaSentinel the Democrat of Democrats, is disgusted with the new democratic paper’s disgraceful attack on Auditor Murray, on account of the harmless removal of four unapproved pages from the commissioners’ record book, to correct an error. The Sentinel published Mr. Murray’s statement, prefacing it with these remarks:
“BAD BREAK OF AN ‘ORGAN!’ So impatient is the ‘organ’! its creator and dictators to get at the ‘fieshpots’ that last week it made an attack upon the Auditor, who is not a candidate, for an error that is liable to occur to any one, and which was corrected a few pages further on in the record.... We never voted for Mr. Murray and he never expected us to. But he is recognized by members of all parties as a gentleman above reproach; as an official, careful, honest, competent and obliging. By request, we cheerfully accord space to Mr. Murray’s reply.” Following the above the Sentinel publishes Mr. Murray's statement, also previously published m The Republican and then adds this comment on Mr. Murray’s statement: “The above is a straight forward reply to the uncalled for insinuations of the “.organ!” Below we copy the “organ’s” reference to the explanation.” The Sentinel here republishes from The Democrat the same entirely unjustifiable and unfair comment upon Mr. Murray’s statement, as we republished and commented upon last week. Upon this editorial of the Democrat’s the Democrat T Sentinel oorameuts as follows:
“While not disputing the truth of Mr. Murray’s statement,” says the “organ,” “the fact remains that the people of Jasper county simply have his word as to why the mutilation was made.” We have 11c love for Harry Murray's political faith. We never voted for him, he never voted for us. When, however, the point is made, .“that the people of Jasper county simply have his word as to why the mutilation was we believe we can safely assume and assert that the, people of Jasper county will accept his statement. Then again, “Public records are most sacred property and should be kept inviolate.” 111 our judgment the author of the quoted lines would jump for joy, if he could find a “mutilation'’ that he could turn to advantage. We have no idea that lie has any regard for the sacred character of public records. It is simply a repetition of satan quoting scripture. The democratic candidates on the county ticket are before the people on their merits, their qualifications, their good oitizenship, their manhood and their democracy, and take no stock in the methods of the “organ!”
